Craft Beer Los Angeles

You can't tell NELA's craft beer story without places like Eagle Rock Brewery and Verdugo Bar.

GUIDE CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS PAGE

I will admit up front there is a bit of gerrymandering going on with this guide to craft beer. The post title of Northeast Los Angeles doesn’t quite say it all. The longer and more accurate title would be Atwater Village, Glendale, Glassell Park, Highland Park, and Los Angeles. But that isn’t quite the catchy Buzzfeedian title that the interwebs thrives on. Whatever you want to call it this stretch of L.A., these are all great spots to kick back and enjoy the finest craft beer.

6. Maximiliano: The home for the widest selection of Craftsman Brewing beers and some excellent Italian food.  You can also go for dessert and beer as well because those are stellar too.  A bright and airy inside space and a nice quiet patio.

7. The Oinkster: All you have to do is check out the L.A. Beer Blast to know that this excellent eatery always has a killer list to go along with the great food options. It is not by accident that they always have a line to order.

8. Verdugo Bar : The ne plus ultra of the area.  No sign. But you will see a steady stream of craft beer fans heading to this excellent bar.  If you can’t find something new or extraordinary, well, then you are not looking at the menu.  And they have an excellent patio where you can see your beer in all of it’s glory under the California sun.

9. Village Tavern: One of the newer options in Atwater is this Mexican BBQ themed tavern that boasts a strong tap list.  When you want reliable choices this is the place to go.  You will find Sculpin from Ballast Point and offerings from Angel City and Eagle Rock.

10. The York: One of the first spots in Highland Park to offer up some great beer.  This gastropub with the large center bar has the beer menus on chalkboards on either side from which to choose from.  On warmer days the front windows open up to make this a homey place to get a beer.

Another glaring omission: Altadena Ale House

Dio, Altadena Ale House is a cool spot, but in the 626, not NELA.

One glaring omission: Red Lion Tavern.
