Arroyo Sells Shares in Malo, Plans Another Mexican Restaurant

On October 8, Steven Arroyo (Cobras & Matadors, Church & State, Sgt. Recruiter) reported that he’d sold his shares in Malo, the Silver Lake taqueria/cantina he started in 2004 with Mitchell Frank, Jeff Ellermeyer and Courtney Holt. In the next year-and-a-half, Arroyo plans to conceptualize, find a space and build another Mexican restaurant. He says, “It’s my brainchild of what I think Mexican food is in Southern California and the United States. I feel like that ceiling has less of a ceiling than anything else, and I think there’s a lot of untapped resources…I have a name and a chef in mind. I have a complete vision in mind. We’re in the process of raising money and putting that together.”

Arroyo is like the chief restaurant playmaker in LA. I’m thinking a Jerry Maguire, Steve Boras, or Ari Emmanuel (or Ari Gold…haha)
