Yesterday, Joe Dashchian opened a Mediterranean restaurant called Gevanty’s in an Eagle Rock strip mall, replacing Zangezour Grill. Dashchian named the family-run restaurant for his son.
The casual space features an open kitchen, deli case, table seating and yellow walls painted with stalks of wheat.
For now, the menu is limited to savory offerings. Here’s a sampling:
Stuffed Grape Leaves ($2.99)
Hummus ($2.49)
Roasted Eggplant ($2.99)
Whole “Healthy Roasters” Chicken with garlic sauce ($7.49)
Falafel ($6.49)
Shish Kebob ($7.49)
Luleh Kebob ($7.49)
Lamb Chops ($8.49)
Plates come with a choice of two items: pita bread, rice or French fries, hummus, eggplant or pickled vegetables.
Hot pita wraps, sandwiches and salads are also available.
Beginning Monday, September 29, Dashchian will roll out a full complement of breads, including the Persian sesame-studded bread plank known as barberi. He’ll also bake cheese-filled fatayer, baklava and cream puffs. Gevanty’s will even sell the Georgian specialty called khachapuri, a football-shaped flatbread baked with cheese and a fresh-cracked egg.
