Restaurateurs, bar owners and now bloggers have stepped up to raise money for Haitian relief. On February 6 from 10 PM – 2 AM, Matthew Kang (Mattatouille), Fiona Chandra (Gourmet Pigs) and Matt Robold (RumDood) are mixing cocktails at Vertical Wine Bistro. 50% of profits from the bar and lounge area will benefit Artists For Peace & Justice, a “fundraising effort founded by Paul Haggis and friends that encourages peace and social justice and addresses issues of poverty and enfranchisement in communities around the world.”

Featured cocktails are the Aviation, Vieux Carre and Port-au-Prince, a RumDood original that incorporates eight-year-old Rhum Barbancourt from Haiti. Bar snacks like date poppers and truffle fries will be available, and so will Vertical Wine Bistro’s regular cocktail menu.

“I’m really excited about the event,” wrote Robold. “It will be my first time working behind the bar ‘for real,’ and I can’t think of a better time to do it than to help out the people of Haiti.”

Artists for Peace & Justice board member Paul Haggis said 100% of your donation will benefit Haiti-based Father Rick Frechette, who “runs two pediatric hospitals, street schools in the slums, an abandoned children’s home and so much more.” The money will allow Father Rick to “help dig people out of the collapsed hospital and schools, to buy emergency medicine, to supply badly needed water and food, to help fly in doctors for the wounded children, and so much more.”

If you can’t attend the fundraiser, you can still DONATE TO THE CAUSE ONLINE.

thanks for promoting the event! it will be the first time that I’ll be behind the bar as well, but i’ve made a good number of drinks on the fly, so I think I have an idea of what I’m in for.
