Izakaya Hachi Pork Cheek

Japanese Food Los Angeles

Izakaya Hachi is part of a Japanese restaurant group that also includes neighboring Manpuku. The pub in Torrance Plaza touts three key tenets in their culinary mantra: “Tapas! Grill! Hot Pot!” My table focused on the first two tenets, and it quickly became clear the kitchen staff has a deft touch with charcoal. The grill imparts a smoky quality to a variety of ingredients, including succulent beef tongue, tsukune, onigiri, and particularly enticing slices of Grilled Pork Cheek ($8.50). The firm slices of “pork toro” with melting fat rims came with yuzu kosho, which provided a tart counter-punch to the rich strips of nearly snow white meat.

Dose of Vitamin P spotlights my favorite pork dish from the previous week.
