January 1, Gelato Bar Combats Financial Woes with 2 for 1 Deal

Last week, LA Times writer Claudia Eller detailed the crippling financial impact of Bernard Madoff’s Ponzi scheme on the Silverton family. Nancy Silverton, sister Gail, father Larry and extended family all suffered. Gail Silverton and husband Joel Gutman lost $1.5 million of savings that helped fund financial aid programs at The Neighborhood School, her daycare center in Studio City. To help turn the page on financial hardship afflicting their family and other Angelenos, the couple is offering a 2 for 1 deal on gelato at Gelato Bar on January 1.
Gelato Bar’s offer is available to all customers from 8 AM – closing. Silverton says “Although this is a small gesture, we feel that this is a time to pull together. We want all of those who have suffered financially or have lost their income during this recession to treat themselves on New Year’s Day. We can then start 2009 with a feeling of hope and good will towards others and begin the healing process we all need.”
