Finally made it to Johnny Harris Returant in Savannah (long on the “to do”list).  It’s a big place and not a “dive” but it still has an authentic, down home Southern atmosphere.  While BBQ is the origin of the place, it has evolved into a full menu restaurant with lots of variations and combinations on the theme.  I tried the fried chicken and ‘cue combination and it was the chicken that was the standout–crispy, moist, and with a little spice.  The pork bbq was good (with a tomato/vinegar sauce) and full of chunks of solid meat.  The desserts were fabulous especially the coconut cream pie–gooey and full of coconut with a flaky crust.  Overall worth the side trip.
