THE GOLDEN STATE
426 North Fairfax Avenue, Downtown, 323 782 8331
Here’s last night’s report from The Golden State co-owner Jason Bernstein:
“We just got in Pizza Port’s Hot Rocks Lager. This is a really cool beer. I just tapped it tonight and poured about 8 pints of it. People were blown away by it. On paper, it might look like a parlor trick – a pitch black beer with the flavors of a light lager but it’s got tremendous depth. I think that this is a winner. I’m not sure how much more of it I can get.
The other beer that I’m pretty psyched about is The Bruery’s Saison de Lente. We took it as a 750mL bottle as opposed to draft. I have been searching and searching for a California based Saison as it is one of my favorite styles of beer. It goes so well with food. This is a very subtle beer but I think it pairs so wonderfully with food because of the lemon-peppery aroma and piquant carbonation. It finishes rather transparently, readying you for the next bite.”
LUCKY BALDWIN’S

NEW ON TAP
According to Lauren, “The other really cool thing we have on tap is the Collaboration Not Litigation, a joint beer from Avery Brewing Company and Russian River Brewing Company. They found out they were making the same beer and instead of suing each other, teamed up to make a kick ass beer.”
You’ll also find leftover Gouden Carolus beers from last week’s festival, including Van de Keizer Blauw, Noel, Triple, Ambrio, Van de Keizer Rood and Hopsinjoor.

THE YORK
5018 York Boulevard, Highland Park, 323 255 9675
NEW ON TAP
Last night, The York owner Ryan Ballinger delivered an update:
“Smithwick’s is gone, in it’s place an offering from Bear Republic Brewery. Hop Rod Rye is an 8% ABV hopped-up ale brewed with rye. I haven’t tasted it in a minute, but loved it when I did, and all the notes I find at Beer Advocate seem like sudsy wet dreams talking about this beer. I’m going to have some in about fifteen minutes from right now.”
“The Honesty Ale from Craftsman is almost done. Hanging on. Hanging on. In its place will be a chocolate porter from Coronado Island Brewing company. When? ‘Honestly’ I don’t know. Oh ha ha ha.”
“Two new five gallon kegs of Craftsman’s cask-conditioned India Pale Ale, one of them vented and ready to pour from the beer engine.”
IN THE BOTTLE
“Bottles remain the same. Love that St. Josephi bock from Reutberger. Love it!”
