La Cachette chef-owner Jean Francois Meteigner recently released an online statement about his forthcoming Santa Monica bistro that addresses a lot of possible questions:
“Jean Francois Meteigner is looking forward to opening his La Cachette Bistro in the summer of 09 in downtown Santa Monica. Located in the Maguire Office Building at 1733 Ocean (down the street from the Viceroy Hotel and facing the Merigot Hotel), you enter the 5,000 sq. ft. restaurant through large glass doors under striped awnings. The concept is modern California-French Bistro with black banquettes, dark wood floors, Hazelnut wood walls and marble-top bar and tables. Walls will be decorated with a collection of rare, original Bistro posters from the 1920’s. The dining area will seat 80; a private room will accommodate 18 and the 1,000 sq. ft. bar area will seat 40. A glassed-in patio will seat 60. The architect/designer is Mark R. Stevens from Architecture & Light in San Francisco. ETO is July 2009.”
“As of March 20, the menu at La Cachette has been changed and incorporates both La Cachette and LC Bistro menus.”
“When the Bistro opens in Santa Monica, La Cachette will remain in Century City in the same location it has been for 14 years at 10506 Santa Monica Blvd (@Thayer).”

this is gonna be great thing. affordable great French!
I wasn’t too impressed with La Cachette for dineLA but it’s nice to see Meteigner go the way of Giraud and Manzke. What kind of name is Meteigner anyway, I thought he was French.
I’ve never been to La Cachette, but bistros are definitely more accessible these days than fine dining establishments. Still, in a city the size of L.A., and especially on the Westside, there should always be room for both.
Interesting that they’re dedicating so much space for the bar area. The main dining room will only seat 80? that seems small. Hopefully the fare will be a better deal than Anisette.
oh nvm, looks like the patio will hold another 60.
Update – Countdown to the opening of La Cachette Bistro has started! You can follow postings on twitter LCBSantaMonica & also on Facebook (La Cachette Bistro) to get the latest buzz! We will be posting photos as La Cachette Bistro comes alive.
La Cachette Bistro recently opened its doors on Ocean Ave in Santa Monica. The French California bistro is run by celebrity Master Chef-owner Jean-Francois Meteigner (Iron Chef, Hell’s Kitchen). The new location has a great vibe, and features a full bar with cocktails inspired by a London mixologist. The happy hour features “bar petite plates”, between the hours of 4:30-6:30pm M-F . The outdoor patio seats 85 and is ideal for grabbing drinks and a bite before hitting the town. And the private room can accomodate up to 25 guests, for birthday celebration or wine dinners.
LC Bistro is also open for lunch 11:30-2:30pm M-F and brunch 11:00-3:00pm on saturday and sunday._As far as cuisine, the menu items range from an ahi tuna “burger” on brioche with beet horseradish cream, to a maple farm duck breast with ginger & braised red cabbage, or a more traditional cassoulet. Since I have been working with LCB, I have most often heard raves over their steak tartar and buffalo short ribs. If you are interested, you can check out the full menu at http://www.lacachettebistro.com _If you get a chance to come by, we’d love to hear about your experience! _Jackie
