The inaugural LA Street Food Fest is hosting almost 70 vendors at LA Center Studios on February 13, and the vendor that’s generating the biggest buzz is - no surprise - Ludo! Ludovic Lefebvre has become a rock star in L.A.’s food community, and during the festival, he’ll be making a new variation on his signature fried chicken…inside a truck.
The LA Street Food Fest website had been touting a “Surprise Chef Pop-Up Truck.” Considering Ludo was L.A.’s first pop-up chef back in 2007, the announcement was hardly a surprise. Still, Ludo’s tweet sent shockwaves across the Twitterverse on Tuesday when he wrote “Six hours of fried chicken. You ask and I give.”
How did the Ludo fried chicken truck come to be? “We were approached by the LA Street Food Fest,” said Krissy Lefebvre (aka @ FrenchChefWife). “After doing some research and meeting Shawna Dawson, we thought it would be a really fun event. Ludo has never worked in a truck before, so it is just like any other pop-up, menu will be dictated by the kitchen. Mobi Munch helped to make the decision possible. We have partnered with them and will be using one of their state of the art trucks for the event. It took Ludo about 3 seconds to decide fried chicken. When he thought about the standouts on the menu that could carry a single item truck for a day, it was either foie gras croques or fried chicken. The thought of a foie truck sounded fun, but not really practical from a cost perspective.”
Ludo Fried Chicken will cost $5, and he’s still working on which sauce to serve with the bird.
LA Street Food Fest runs February 13 from 11 AM - 5 PM. Admission is $5 and non-Ludo food samples cost $1-5 each.
