Restaurant Los Angeles

Capitol City teams 46 TVs with 30 taps at Curtis Nysmith's next level Hollywood gastropub.

D.C. native Curtis Nysmith discussed his plans to transform the former Goa space into a deluxe sports bar called Capitol City, which should open August 1. He enlisted Tag Front (BOA, Blue Velvet, Luckyfish, Takami) to fashion the sprawling space after the kind of place you’d find along the D.C. waterfront, with plenty of brick, stone and glass and a mezzanine overlooking the main floor. Nysmith promises 46 TVs, with nothing on the main floor below 60 inches, plus a 14×8 foot high def “monster” and 4-5 different audio zones. Capitol City will also have back and front decks and roll-up windows to allow open-air. Nysmith says, “If you took all the TVs out it still stands alone as a beautiful restaurant.”

Sushi Los Angeles

Capitol City goes beyond typical gastropub fare with sushi, including spicy tuna on crispy rice.

In terms of food, Nysmith is planning on California fusion with “some typical sports bar classics, but well done.” He envisions “nachos laid out flat on a porcelain plate, hand sprinkled. A lot of places you go, the top is good, the middle is dry and the bottom is soggy. Build your own burger with high-grade meat like short rib. Choose what kind of bun and fries you want. Skewers and coconut shrimp and tuna tartar. It’s certainly going to be a menu with healthy foods, so if women do want to come eat, it won’t be greasy.”

Craft Beer Los Angeles

To drink, Capitol City features 30 beers on tap and 30 more bottles.

The tap lines will be stainless steel and Capitol City will have secondary refrigeration to bring the brews down to 31 degrees, with every beer served in a frosted glass.

Ugh, think I’ll skip that one (hand-sprinkled nachos?), but thanks for the news.

When nachos were first created in the ’40s, they were individual chips instead of a heap. Sounds like that’s what Nysmith has in mind for Capital City.
