Shopbot - Comparison Shopping

Reported by: James Camner

On Saturday my wife and I drove from Princeton to New Haven to see the new Sarah Ruhl play - “Passion Play.” When we go to New Haven, we follow a wonderful routine - lunch at Louis Lunch - the 1895 diner that served the world’s first hamburger, and after the play, on to pizza. Before today, it was Frank Pepe’s or their even better spinoff - The Spot. Today, for the first time we went to Sally’s. Even less fancy, if possible than the Pepe’s joints, Sally’s is totally down to earth. We ordered a half pepperoni-half mozzarella and a clam pizza. We were very impressed and feel that this classic pizzeria ranks at the very top of any we’ve gone to. The charcoal edged crust was simply fabulous and the cheese and other ingredients superb. We liked their clam pizza slightly (very slightly) better than the one at The Spot. Amazingly, though there was a big line, we were the only “two” and got a table without waiting. Miracles do happen. “It’s your lucky day,” chimed the friendly crowd.
