To benefit Share Our Strength, Verdugo Bar pours Eagle Rock Brewery beers and Library Alehouse hosts Firestone Walker.

Last week, The Bruery teamed with Steingarten LA to generate more than $700 for Share Our Strength. Now, two more sets of breweries and bars have come together to help the organization fight childhood hunger.

On May 12, beginning at 6 p.m., Eagle Rock Brewery co-founder Jeremy Raub will be in Glassell Park at Verdugo Bar. He’s bringing five beers – Solidarity (black mild), Manifesto (wit), Populist (IPA), Yearling (anniversary sour) and Equinox (young sour) – and $1 from the sale of each beer benefits TOTNLA.

On May 17, Firestone Walker will be the featured brewery at Santa Monica’s Library Alehouse. The event coincides with the bar’s American Craft Beer Week festivities and features five beers from Firestone Walker: Firestone Pale 31 (pale ale on CASK), Firestone Double Jack (double IPA), Firestone Velvet Merlin (oatmeal stout), Firestone Solace (unfiltered ale) and Abacus (barley wine). $1 from the sale of each beer will be donated to Share Our Strength.

Additionally, Library Alehouse will have pairings available for each beer. Small bites will be available for $2 each, with 100% of the price donated to Share our Strength. For example, Pale 31 joins guacamole. Double Jack will pair with fried pickle chips and habanero aioli. Velvet Merlin is a match for plantains with black beans and crema. The pairings for Solace and Abacus are still TBD. Everything will be available after 4 p.m.

It’s also worth noting that three of the 10 certified cicerones – beer “sommeliers” – who live in L.A. County are participating in these two events. The May 12 fundraiser involves Verdugo Bar (and The Surly Goat) co-owner Ryan Sweeney. May 17 is the result of a collaboration between Tom Kelley (GM of Library Alehouse) and Jace Milstead (Firestone Walker).

These are just two more beer-related events that will complement the craft biergarten at Taste of the Nation LA, Share Our Strength’s marquee event, which will feature more than 2000 people and over 40 top chefs at Culver City’s Media Park on June 12 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. TOTNLA tickets will be offered at a $15 discount on both May 12 and May 17, yet another reason to visit Verdugo Bar and Library Alehouse on those nights.
