What TV Shows Do Chefs Watch?

Chef California

Tyler Florence is a fan of "The Americans," which he calls "cloak and dagger at its finest."

At Pebble Beach Food & Wine, I asked 16 chefs a pivotal question: What TV shows do you watch on a regular basis? Their answers might surprise you.

Abram Bissell (The NoMad)

I enjoyed “Fringe” quite a bit. That’s over. We discussed watching “Game of Thrones,” and we just watched the first season. I don’t watch many culinary shows, but I do like “Good Eats” with Alton Brown. It’s one of my favorites, but I don’t watch a great deal of TV.

Daniel Boulud

Not too many except “Game of Thrones” on Sunday. That is not to miss… My daughter and my girlfriend, we watch that. Very cool. And of course I don’t watch too much TV, and I don’t watch cooking shows much, unless it’s really interesting, if I discover something or I like the person. I watch mostly late night TV.

Anne Burrell

My favorite TV show, really, that I’m so hot on right now is “The Good Wife.”… The storylines are so amazing. It’s the first thing, when I get home after traveling, that I watch on DVR. I always wish the show was longer. It’s just such a great show. The acting. The stories. The suspense. Everything, I love it.

We just finished up a new series on Netflix called “The Americans.”… Oh my god, it’s an amazing storyline. It’s so sick. It takes place in 1981, so Ronald Reagan is President. It’s about a KGB sleeper cell that’s based in Washington, D.C. It’s a husband and wife that aren’t really married. They’re sleeper agents with the KGB, and they’ve been living together and having children together. It’s an amazing storyline, cloak and dagger at its finest.

Clark Frasier + Mark Gaier (Arrows, MC Perkins Cove, MC Medici)

Gaier: We got totally hooked on “Downtown Abbey.” We just recently got hooked on “House of Cards.” “Homeland” is like crack.

Frasier: You tell people it’s so great, friends of ours, and they’re like, “We’ll watch it.” And then they’re like, “Oh my god, you were right. It’s so addictive. We can’t stop watching.”

Gaier: Then “Criminal Minds” or “Law & Order: SVU.”

Jose Garces

I recently got into “The Walking Dead.” I’m only on Season 1, so I know I’m a little bit behind the curve, but I’ve been enjoying the first six episodes…I didn’t realize I was such a zombie fan until I started watching it.

Carla Hall

I watch “Scandal.” I watch “The Following.” I watch “Dancing With The Stars.” I watch “American Idol,” “Suits.” I’m very proud of watching a lot of television. People wear this badge of honor, like, “I don’t watch a lot of TV,” and I watch a lot of TV. I love TV. Love, love, LOVE TV.

Matthew Lightner (Atera)

I’ve been watching “Sons of Anarchy.” I go home and hit it on Netflix.

Kelly Liken (Restaurant Kelly Liken)

I love “The Voice.” I really do. I’m a big country music fan, so I love Blake Shelton. I generally like TV. Now that I’ve done a little TV, it’s a very interesting medium for me. I don’t have that much time to watch that many shows regularly. “Duck Dynasty,” I like that too… It’s about the family who invented the duck call, for duck hunting, and they live in Louisiana and grow long beards, and they’re very goofy, strange men.
