Italian Restaurant Los Angeles

Drago Centro is Celestino Drago’s latest contribution to the Los Angeles dining scene. The Sicily native is building on success with Il Pastaio in Beverly Hills. Other siblings from his large family are also involved with the L.A. dining community. For example, brother Giacomino runs restaurants like Sushi House Unico in Bel-Air and Piccolo Paradiso in Beverly Hills.

With Drago Centro, a modern glass-fronted restaurant, Celestino Drago draws downtown bankers like bulls to red capes. Chef de Cuisine Ian Gresik helms the Italian kitchen on a daily basis. Drago Centro recently debuted a three-course “Eat & Run” prix fixe menu that’s geared toward businesspeople. At lunch, $25 now gets you a meal that includes le lattughe miste – mixed baby lettuces with shaved Parmesan and red wine vinaigrette; la coda – braised oxtail with soft polenta; and il tiramisu. The meal is designed to be eaten in 30 minutes. The menu will change depending on what ingredients are in peak season.

Chef Gresik’s revised lunch menu now includes dishes like l’insalata di cappesante – seared scallops with butter lettuce and lemon poppy seed dressing; il risotto con zucca e pancetta – risotto with butternut squash, pancetta and Taleggio cream; and i garganelli – garganelli with pork sausage, Parmesan and fennel seeds.

Now that they have finally decided to open for Sunday dinner, I sure wish they would also open for Saturday and Sunday lunch/brunch as there are so many people heading for Disney Hall and the Music Center between October and the end of May that have very few eating options beyond the Patina Group.
Superb place though!
