San Diego native Tomme Arthur, brewmaster for Port Brewing and The Lost Abbey, has become known for producing some of the best Belgian-style beers in the U.S. On July 30, he made a rare L.A. appearance at Verdugo Bar and DISCUSSED HIS BACKGROUND AND APPROACH.

Beachwood BBQ owner Gabriel Gordon streams his 24-tap blackboard menu via HOP CAM. Some of Gordon’s latest brews include Sprecher Scotch Ale, Mad River Mad Belgian, Wintercoat Cockney Imperial Stout, North Coast Blue Star Wheat and Gouden Carolus Cuvee Van De Keizer.

On August 8, Blue Palms proprietor Brian Lenzo is hosting the brewhouse’s 1st Anniversary Party. Beginning at 2 PM, Lenzo invites Angelenos to “enter a world of Beer Nirvana.” He’s stockpiled prized kegs over the past year, including Karl Strauss 20th Anniversary, North Coast Old Stock ‘06, Port Brewing 3rd Anniversary, Port Brewing Light Weight Lager, Port Brewing Hop Heavy, Alpine Pure Hoppiness, Alpine Nelson IPA, San Diego Brewing Hop Goodness, Ommegang Rouge, Lost Abbey Duck Duck Gooze, The Bruery Sour on the Rye, Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA, Firestone Walker Double Jack Imperial IPA, Firestone Walker Parabola, Firestone Walker Bravo, Avery Brewing’s Maharaja, Stone Pale Ale (Dry-Hopped), Russian River Temptation, Ballast Point Dorado Double IPA, Speakeasy Barrel Aged Porter and Stone Anniversary 12.

Blue Palms will also feature a Cask Room next door, including Alpine Exponential Hoppiness, Firestone UnFiltered DBA, Port Brewing Killer Dana Double IPA and Alpine Bad Boy IPA.

BOTTLEROCK LA

“We’ll be getting bottles of Russian River Temptation and Port Older Viscosity later this week, along with a keg of AleSmith Horny Devil.

Also, there are plans in the works to start doing a Monday tasting menu with optional beer and wine pairings.”

“This week, we got a very limited allotment of Stone’s Juxtaposition Black Pilsner Collab with Cambridge & Brewdog (12oz bottles only). Just tried some last night, you’d never know it’s a Pilsner. Really thick with a roasted chestnut flavor reminiscent of their Jolly Pumpkin/Nogne O Christmas collab. YUM!”

Co-owner James Starr said they recently tapped kegs of Lagunitas Correction Ale and Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale.

LUCKY BALDWIN’S

The taps are holding steady until the 2009 Belgian Beer Festival (Part 2) starts on August 15. At that point, you’ll find 60 different Belgians on tap, including St. Bernardus Abt 12, Tripel Karmeliet and Avec Le Bons Voeux. Belgian Fest will run until August 30, at least. Commemorative T-shirts and glassware will be available.

Lucky Baldwin’s

Beginning August 15, Lucky Baldwin’s eastern outpost is also hosting the 2009 Belgian Beer Festival (Part 2). Until then, there aren’t many additions. Since last Thursday, just Acme IPA is new on draught.

    Bar manager Matty Eggleston just added three 750mL bottles of Cantillon: Classic Geuze, Rose’ de Gambrinus (dry framboise) and the Grand Cru (3yrs barrel aged!). You’ll also find bottles of Wostyntje mustard ale ($9) and La Meule (blond ale with sage from Switzerland) ($9).
