Q&A with brewmaster Dave McLean (Magnolia Pub & Brewery)
Dave McLean attended the UC Davis Master Brewers Program, studying under famed professor Michael Lewis. He opened Magnolia Pub & Brewery in 1997, followed up with The Alembic Bar down Haight Street, and is currently working to open a brewery in the Dogpatch neighborhood. Click Here to Learn More.
Beachwood chef-owner Gabe Gordon currently features draught beers such as Heretic Tafelbully, Airdale Angry Panda, Stone 15th Anniversary, North Coast Grand Cru and Flying Dog Single Hop Centennial Imperial IPA in Seal Beach. Recently tapped at the Bottle Room are Schneider-Brooklyner Hopfen-Weisse: a pale, hoppy Weizenbock @ 8.2%, the result of Brooklyn and Schnieder brewmasters’ collaboration and Ommegang Aphrodite, a Dry Fruit Beer @ 8.9% with Raspberry, Pear, Grains of Paradise and Brett yeast for a sour finish. The latest from Wen Yeh at BRU HAUS: “Get an early start on Oktoberfest with the limited release of Ayinger Oktoberfest Märzen on draft and rarely available Augustiner-Bräu München in bottle in addition to Weihenstephan Vitus, Schneider Edelweiss, Hofbräu Original, Reissdorf Kölsch, Aventinus, Paulaner Pilsner and Ayinger Doppelbock, all on draft.

Since last Thursday, Phil McGovern’s iconic Santa Monica bar has added Ballast Point Big Eye IPA, Sierra Nevada/Dogfish Head Life and Limb 2 and a cask of Stone Pale Ale with coriander to their beer list.
On tap beer wise are Populist IPA, Manifesto Wit, Solidarity and Nitro Vanilla Bean Solidarity. On the Food truck front, Friday brings the Mandoline Grill and the Pnutbutterbar rolls in on Saturday night.
