Deli Los Angeles

Nate ‘n Al's, a legendary Beverly Hills deli, opens an outpost at The Lakes in Thousand Oaks.

The San Fernando Valley’s western fringe is becoming a deli hub. Brent’s Delicatessen began the pastrami infusion in 2008. Today, beloved 64-year-old Beverly Hills institution Nate ‘n Al’s joins the fray. David Mendelson is opening his family’s first branch at The Lakes in Thousand Oaks in Sushi Ko’s former home.

“We have long thought about a second location, but it took [Caruso Affiliated owner] Rick Caruso and an incredible destination like The Lakes to convince us that now was the time,” said David Mendelson. Al Mendelson’s grandson became Nate ‘n Al’s sole owner after longtime partner Nate Reimer retired in the early ’50s.

Expect a menu identical to the Beverly Hills original. Pastrami, corned beef, Grandmother Mendelson’s potato pancakes join rye bread, double-baked daily.
