There’s no that ahi tuna is the draw at Shoreline Beach Cafe in Santa Barbara. I don’t know who tipped R.W. Apple, Jr. off to this seafood shack near Santa Barbara City College where visitors can eat with their feet in the sand, but I’m grateful.

The inviting atmosphere attracts many species of diner, including a panoply of shorebirds.

Perfectly grilled ahi tacos came with pico de gallo, tangy tomatillo salsa, and black beans topped with crema.

Shoreline Beach Cafe slathered one of the best pieces of ahi I’ve ever eaten with cayenne and seared, served with spicy julienne carrots and purple cabbage (and the occasional ladybug). The price is right, $11.95 for two fist-sized chunks!
