George Abou-Daoud completed his all-encompassing vision for the corner of Sunset & Tamarind last Wednesday by opening Tamarind Ave. Deli. He already owned Delancey (Italian) and Mission Cantina (Mexican) at the intersection’s Southwest corner. Now he’s opened an Italian deli, another nod to his New York roots. With three establishments on one corner, and The Bowery down the street, Abou-Daoud is well positioned to capitalize on the tidal wave of impending condos and apartments planned for the neighborhood.
Tamarind Ave. Deli is a straightforward concept, with hot and cold deli sandwiches, minestrone soup, and a deli case with macaroni salad, potato salad and a green salad all available to grab-and-go.
For now, hours are limited to weekdays, 11 AM – 6 PM, but plans are in the works for weekend hours and breakfast sandwiches.
Here are six signature sandwiches that you can currently expect to find at Tamarind.
- Roast Beef Brisket w/Horseradish, Caramelized Onions, Smoked Mozzarella & Wild Arugula ($8.75)
- Smoked Turkey, Havarti, Baby Spinach, Tomatoes, Olive Tapenade, Mayo ($8)
- Sporessata, Shaved Parmesan, Sun Dried Tomato Spread & Wild Arugula (($8.50)
- Prosciutto di Parma, Fresh Mozzarella, Tomatoes, Basil, Olive Oil & Vinegar ($8.50)
- Capocollo, Cotto Salami, Pepperoni, Provolone, Red Onion, Lettuce, Tomato, Peperoncini & Italian Dressing ($8.50)
